Welcome to the Gila Bend Unified School District

The School District is named after the town of Gila Bend which is located on and named for the bend in the Gila River. The current Gila Bend School building was built in May of 1925 and took on its first student in September of 1925. Today Gila Bend Unified School District continues to serve over 450 students grades K-12.

Attendance Law

We will be following the Attendance Law
starting January 7, 2020

Arizona Revised Statute 15-803B (state law) requires students to be in school AT LEAST 90% OF THE REQUIRED SCHOOL DAYS. For our district this means students can only miss a total of 14 days per school year. Excused and unexcused absences count toward the 14 days. For our high school students this means they can only miss 7 school days per semester. If their absences exceed this number then they will lose semester credit and will need to make up the entire semester. Please review this information with your child as not following this law will cause students to not be promoted and not graduate.

Please read the Arizona Revised Statute below.

Arizona Revised Statute 15-803. School attendance

A. It is unlawful for any child who is between six and sixteen years of age to fail to attend school during the hours school is in session;

B. A child who is habitually truant or who has excessive absences may be adjudicated an incorrigible child as defined in section 8-201.  Absences may be considered excessive when the number of absent days exceeds ten percent of the number of required attendance days prescribed.

School District Bond Update
February 4, 2020

The foundations for the academic building (Bldg A) and Gymnasium (Bldg B) have been poured and are currently curing. Most of the tilt walls have been poured and need 15 days to cure. The tilt walls are laying on the ground next to the foundations. In late February or early March, the tilt walls will be erected by a cane. We will let the public know in case the community wants to observe this activity. We will also show the lifting of the tilt walls on Facebook live that day.

Night work has been approved by the town in order to stay on schedule for completion. We will reduce night time work noise as much as possible.

Please do not hesitate to call me, Anthony Perkins, at 928.683.2225 ext. 114 if you have questions. The public will receive monthly updates.

Please come into your child's school office to pick up a copy of the Student Handbook
